Hey, history lovers!

Welcome to the monthly edition of The Archaeo Jarlig. I have some fascinating stories from the world of history and archaeology to share with you.

Before we proceed, have you watched the 2001 miniseries Attila, starring Gerard Butler? The actor played the role of the famous conqueror Attila the Hun. Though not known for historical accuracy, I always wondered why a semi-historical documentary series cast a Scottish actor in the lead role of Attila.

Researching further, I realized back in the late 19th and early 20th century, there was a craze among many Central European nations to claim descent from the Huns. In fact, during WWI, the Allies referred to the Germans as Huns. The idea was to portray the enemy as a bloodthirsty barbarian.
